Real estate companies are under increasing pressure to navigate sustainability challenges and stricter environmental regulations, which directly impact their financing, property values, and operations. While compliance with sustainability reporting is becoming mandatory, especially in the EU, the current assessment process remains expensive, time-consuming, and relies on outdated tools.
To address this gap, Telescope revolutionizes how real estate owners handle environmental challenges through an easy-to-use, AI-powered platform. Property owners can instantly screen buildings for everything from wildfire and flooding risks to polluted grounds and protected species in the surrounding area – transforming what used to be weeks of work into a matter of seconds. By providing actionable insights and specific recommendations, Telescope helps owners protect their assets, secure better financing options, and stay ahead of evolving regulations.
The company caught our attention by solving a critical problem in a €12 billion European market with minimal competition. As sustainability risks increasingly affect borrowing costs and property values, Telescope's efficient solution positions it to capture this significant market share as a first mover in this underserved space.
Behind this innovation, we see an exceptional founding team that combines deep industry expertise with proven execution ability. Their balanced mix of skills and shared commitment to execution makes them qualified to scale Telescope's solution in this rapidly evolving market.
Telescope, an Oslo headquartered company, became operational in 2023 to help real estate owners identify, manage, and address sustainability risks in their portfolios. Through an intuitive platform, asset owners can access automated, in-depth asset analysis built on geospatial data, to work with sustainability risks facing their assets in an effective way. With AI-driven insights, users can develop actionable adaptation plans with clear financial benefits, track progress, and generate reports.
Telescope has some of the largest real estate owners in Norway as customers, counting more than a thousand buildings on their platform at the time of investment. The solution adds immediate customer value-add and saves them an equivalent of ∼€10K/building per year on property screenings alone, not to mention the potential cost savings occurring from accessing more favorable financing.
The company is built and led by a complimentary team of 3 co-founders – Gustav Haaland (CEO), Marit Bjerkreim (CFO) and Mathias Wahl (CTO). Gustav brings strong industry experience, EU Taxonomy know-how, and a valuable network in the real estate sector. Marit brings rich experience from previous roles in startups and scaleups and adds unique operational skills to the team. Mathias is a second-time founder with a deep understanding of tech scalability, launching fast, and building and structuring software teams.
