Scale Capital welcomes Jørgen Balle Olesen as ESG Ambassador. Jørgen has a wealth of experience as an entrepreneur and business owner, and will advise on ESG matters to the management team and board of directors at Scale Capital.

“To consider Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) when investing in technology and people makes perfect sense from a business and investment perspective”, says Lars Jensen, Managing Partner at Scale Capital.

“The same goes for the global SDG’s (Sustainable Development Goals) formulated by UN to be obtained by 2030 represent an important framework for positive impact investments. We need to select and partner with company owners who wants to change the world for the better and leave a positive mark on society and the environment. As investors, we need to take responsibility and help drive positive change.”

Jørgen Balle Olesen pays special attention to no. 4 ’Quality Education’ of SDGs. This specific niche has immense impact opportunities, and educational technology (EdTech) investments are expected to triple in the next decade. Venture Capital investments in this space were at USD500m in 2010. In 2019 that number had risen to USD7B, 14x higher, with 50% of last decades funding occurring within the last 2 years, driven primarily by the increased focus on personalization in the educational sector. In 2020 the level is expected to reach an all-time high of USD10B, with an increase in market size expected at 18% CAGR over the next 7 years, accelerated by COVID-19 forcing an enhanced digitization. The Venture Capital investment growth in Edtech is driven primarily by China, India and USA. However, the Nordics, with a high degree of digitization in the educational space, is well positioned to play an important role.

“At Scale Capital, we believe that responsible investing is core to mitigating risk in both the investment phase and during ownership”, says Lars Jensen.
